SUPPLIES NEEDED:  Power carver & pyrography units can be supplied by the instructor, but if you have your own, please feel free to bring them!  PPE is also required

Explore the history and craftsmanship behind the Viking helmet while creating your own aged, relic-inspired wooden piece.

In this class, students will learn about the history surrounding Viking helmets—and discover why authentic Viking helmets did not have horns. The fascinating story behind the horned Viking helmet myth will be discussed during the class.

You will learn a variety of relief-carving techniques to create the illusion of raised and elevated bands, giving the helmet its distinctive dimensional appearance. Hand-crafted wooden rivets will be added to further enhance the construction and create the appearance of an aged, historically inspired artifact.

A significant portion of the class will focus on finishing techniques. We will discuss ways to build layers of color, texture, wear, and patina to create the appearance of a centuries-old relic—rather than a newly carved piece.

By the end of the class, you will have created a unique Viking-inspired wooden helmet while gaining new skills in relief carving, dimensional detailing, antiquing, and finish techniques.

•       Supplies furnished by instructor. Power carvers, Pyrography units, Wood, Paints and accessories

•       Tools or equipment the student is required to have. Students are encouraged to bring their own equipment to help problem solve and show correct use.  Personal Protection Equipment, PPE.
