Power-Carve & Paint a Realistic Eastern Screech Owl — Red Phase

Learn to power-carve and paint a life-sized, 8-inch Eastern Screech Owl with an emphasis on fine detail, dimensional feather patterns, and realism.

Working from a pre-shaped owl blank, you will learn how to:

Power-carve realistic, dimensional feather patterns

Use wood-burning techniques to create intricate feather detail and texture. Airbrush natural color, shading, and depth into the carved feathers. Create convincing highlights, shadows, and feather definition.

Hand-paint glass eyes to give your owl a lifelike, observant expression. Add beautifully crafted pewter feet and talons.

Combine carving, burning, painting, and airbrushing techniques to achieve a realistic finished piece.

This hands-on class focuses on the fine details that bring a carved bird to life. You will explore a variety of carving and wood-burning techniques designed to create depth, texture, and the distinctive feather patterns of the Eastern Screech Owl.

At the end of the class, you will leave with a striking, life-sized Red Phase Eastern Screech Owl and a valuable collection of new skills that you can apply to your future carving projects.
